Katie is almost three and a half and she STILL won't fall asleep in her bed. Ohhhhhh, nooooo. She won't lay in her comfy bed in her pretty pink room but she *will* fall asleep on the living room floor, or half on the couch or sitting in her pink "comfy" chair. And we've just been carrying her to bed.
We know this is one of those things we've got to train *ourselves* out of but I'm just happy she's settled into an earlier bed time! It used to be 11:30 p.m. and now we're at about 10:00 p.m. I think that once we get Jacob to sleep through most of the night, we'll start tackling this problem... or maybe we'll just leave her in the living room.
Jake however sleeps pretty well in his crib now. The only time I take him to bed with me is when he wants a bottle and I want to close my eyes. I'll feed him in bed and we'll both fall asleep.
I've only woken up a couple of times to find that he's spit out the nipple drifted off and there's milk dripping down his neck and onto my arm. But, that's a small price to pay for a few more zzzzz's.

Kristi, Kristi, Kristi. As your brother, I feel I should let you in on a little secret. Katie is 3 and needs you to set her bedtime. Make it 9:00pm and you'll have time for yourselves at night after things settle. I can only assume that it would be worth it even if it takes an hour of sending her back to bed when she sneaks out or fusses. That only lasts a few days (if that) before she starts to understand. If it's that Katie feels she needs some control, let her choose between two nighties, let her choose between a goodnight book or a goodnight song.
Love,
Mike "Super Nanny" Gonzalez
Katie has gotten into a bad habit but this too shall pass as most unpleastant things do. You will need to take control tho and let her know that you are the boss. It will be hard for a few nights as Mike said but thats one of the hard things of being a parent. Been there - done that- don't like it. Love, G
(Funny Mike! I caught a few episodes of the show last night. Whew!)
I know, I know... we set the boundaries. But when I really think about it, I realize that I don't mind that she goes to sleep so late and that it's kind of in random places.
We don't have any meltdowns, she plays by herself (usually pretty quietly!), and I tell her that mommy is going to go off duty in x number of minutes so I won't be able to refill sippy cups or get her a "gorilla" bar, but I am available to read a book or to cuddle.
Also, with her late nights she's not a morning person sooooo, mommy gets to sleep in on Saturday mornings when daddy's got Jake.
So a temporary hold on the sleeping thing works for us. And did I mention sleeping in on Saturday mornings? Love that.
